Description
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a well-established evidence-based approach to promoting positive behavior change. MI has been shown to be effective across a variety of problem behaviors and populations. Participants who complete the two-part series will have the basic knowledge and skills upon which to build an individualized learning plan to reach towards the proficient use of MI. These two-day exposure trainings will provide you with the most up-to-date information as well as the background on MI theory and research, including how and why behavior change occurs. MI is presented as a guiding style of communication and contrasted with other methods of behavior change counseling. Engaging will be the featured MI process in this workshop. Through discussion, videos, and experiential exercises, learners will begin developing a MI practice. Program highlights: • Explore and discuss the benefits of learning MI • Become acquainted with relevant evidence of MI effectiveness in many practice settings • Explain the four processes in motivational interviewing • Apply the spirit of motivational interviewing to patient interactions • Observe and practice fundamental skills; active listening and reflections. • Observe and practice the key skills: open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections and summaries. • Build a personal protocol for engaging and finding a focus with clients • Practice engaging and finding a focus in a real play interaction • Create an individual learning plan to continue to learn MI
