EEOC Wisconsin Dells Seminar
Description
WHAT: EEOC Technical Assistance Seminar for Employers
WHEN: Wednesday, June 17, 2009
WHERE: Kalahari Resort & Conference Center, Wisconsin Dells, WI
Find out why the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is THE source for EEO training. Our Wisconsin Dells Seminar will focus on practical applications of EEO laws. We provide real-world scenarios in our workshop sessions so that you will not only leave our seminar with an understanding of the laws, but with an insider’s view of how the EEOC looks at different types of employment situations. EEOC’s training and guidance will help you develop and maintain policies and practices which ensure legitimate business decisions.
Some of the highlights of this year’s seminar are:
* ADA Amendments Act & Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act: Hear directly from the EEOC’s Office of Legal Counsel about the impact of these important Acts on employers. Peggy Mastroianni, EEOC Associate Legal Counsel and popular EEOC speaker, will discuss the dramatic changes under the ADAAA, including the expansion of the definition of “disability” under the ADA, as well as GINA, the new federal law that protects Americans from discrimination on the basis of genetic information in employment and health insurance.
* Layoffs and Reductions in Force: Many employers are making the difficult decision to lay off workers in order to cut costs. Done poorly, and without a workforce analysis, employers may face costly litigation. A Defendant Counsel expert will provide an overview and tips on how to navigate a layoff/RIF and how to comply with the legal requirements under WARN, OWBPA, and ADEA waivers.
* Luncheon with EEO Open Mike: In this interactive session, attorney representatives from the EEOC and law firms will field your most burning EEO questions and workplace scenarios.
* Employee Leave and Return-to-Work Issues: Mike Fischer, Defendant Counsel and highly-rated EEO speaker, will provide insight into the federal and state laws that govern employee leave and return-to-work situations which may fall individually, or jointly, under the headings of the ADA, FMLA, Workers Compensation and pregnancy/maternity and military leave. Take away tips on assessing and effectively managing these issues within the requirements of the law.
* Legal EEO Update: What Every Employer Should Know: Employment law is ever changing and developing as the courts interpret and apply the law to a rapidly changing workplace. Join us for a review of hot employment issues, litigation trends and court decisions including the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 and new EEOC guidance on religion and caregiving discrimination. Learn how to limit your liability as an employer.
* FLSA Wage & Hour Update: Avoid the violations, penalties and lawsuits that result from a poor understanding of the state and federal laws governing wage and hour. An Employment Law Attorney will provide an update and insight on recent wage and hour legislation and regulatory changes. Have your questions answered and learn legal strategies on dealing with critical issues under the FLSA.
