\n Dr. Jackie Brux is a development economist with research focusing on Africa. She is also the Co-director of the UWRF Association for International Development. Her topic\, "\;The Third World: Abject Poverty or Poverty with Dignity"\; reflects her growing philosophy of what constitutes poverty with dignity and what constitutes radical change. Using the example of microcredit for women and women'\;s groups in Kenya and Uganda\, she argues that the sustainable redistribution of resources to poor women\, made possible by microcredit\, can indeed create the kind of fundamental change necessary to improve living conditions in East Africa.

\n As part of International Education Week\, the Geography Department will host an open house in the GIS Lab on Tuesday Nov. 15\, from Noon to 2 p.m.\, in 301 KFA. Information will be shared about courses\, student and faculty international research projects\, and other contributions to international education such as the department'\;s involvement in Wisconsin in Scotland and International Traveling Classroom.
