Jul 19 - Aug 16    'Sheltering Nature' a Project Art for Nature exhibit and KRLT fundraiser
This exhibit of artwork in many media is the culmination of the Project Art for Nature's fourth three-year creative cycle. The 21 regional artists in the group are intent on calling attention to the preservation and restoration of natural areas. Through their artwork they voice both their awe and concern for communities of native plants and animals. at least 20% of the sale price of artwork sold in the show ~ which comes to us directly from the Bell Museum of Natural History on the U of M campus ~ will be donated to the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust.

In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be moved indoors to the Falcon's Nest in the University Center, where food and beverages will still be available for purchase.

Aug 14    Making History: An Oral History of North Hall
Become a part of the historical record for the celebration of UWRF's North Hall 100th Anniversary. Prof. Kurt Leichtle will be interviewing former mayor and RFHS teacher Don Richards to start things off (Don went to elementary school at the "lab school" there). After that anyone can chime in with memories of their time there as campus school or college students, or of attending special events. There will be a display of photos and artifacts from the 100-year history of this venerable old building too. Kurt will also give a few tips on creating a successful oral history, a great tool for recording family or organization history. There is no admission charge and refreshments will be served.

The St. Croix Valley Collector's Association is holding the 29th Annual Barn Dance and Threshing Bee to celebrate our heritage! The event will begin on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM with live music by Trigger Happy in the Park. On Sunday, Threshing and Exhibits start at 10:00, lunch at 12:00 PM (bring a dish to share!), and finally, the parade and slow tractor race will begin at 2:00 PM.

Women of Legend combines found object art with creative whimsy to please the eye and stir the soul. Meet archetypical women from history and myth whose personae are most familiar and whose names resound in cultural memory. Artist and decorator Jennifer Nelson draws each figure out of our collective unconscious and brings them to life, accompanied by ?Herstory? and appropriate embellishments, this exhibit is a joy to behold. Everyone will enjoy the opening reception, scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, August 23, particularly little girls and boys, who can indulge their imaginations in the dress-up corner, and eat a piece of ?doll cake? straight out of 1950s American life. The exhibit continues in the library gallery through Sunday, September 21, and is open during regular library hours beginning at 10am daily except summer Sundays. Starting Sunday, September 7 the gallery will be open from 1-4pm.

The River Falls Public Library gallery show, ?Women of Legend? is a treat for the eye and a celebration for the soul, offering representations of archetypical women from history and mythology. A riot of color expresses each woman?s unique personae, as does her story and her accessories. Meet those your mind doesn?t know yet and greet those your body remembers as you enjoy the ?Herstory? of each character. The exhibit opens on Saturday, August 23 with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome, especially youngsters who will enjoy the dress-up clothes provided to encourage imagination. Employers and Individuals have continued to question their health care options and find themselves asking “How do I know what the right option is?”
Join JA Counter for an Affordable Care Act (ACA) update and get a head start toward making a confident, informed decision about your individual or group health insurance plan. Jill Gorres, with JA Counter, will educate on ACA items impacting Western WI employers.  This session will provide up to date information surrounding the insurance marketplace and what employers should be considering when reviewing their options.

Jill Gorres joined JA Counter in February 2008. She is licensed in Life, Health and Property and Casualty insurance in WI and MN.  Jill brings expertise in areas of benefits consulting, regulatory compliance, benefits administration and insurance product design.  She works to help business owners, human resources professionals and CFO’s find solutions with valued plan designs and budget restrictions utilizing products or services provided by JA Counter.
Jill is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in General Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Sales.  She has continued her education and obtained her REBC (Registered Employee Benefits Consultant) and RHU (Registered Health Underwriter) designations through The American College.  Also, she is a Certified Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Professional.

Active in the St Croix Valley, Jill currently holds positions on the board of directors for the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce, Turningpoint for Victims of Sexual and Domestic Violence and the St. Croix Economic Development Corporation.  She is the founder and President of the St. Croix Valley Young Professionals Group and won 2011 Associate of the Year with the St. Croix Valley Home Builders Association.  She prides herself on being an  active member of the St. Croix Valley and surrounding areas.  Jill values the relationships she has built throughout the business community and looks forward to making many more.
