Dec 1    4th Annual Family Concert
The Fourth Annual FORWARD Holiday Family Concert will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the High School Auditorium.  The program will again feature Colleen Raye and Family: Reed Grimm, Sophie Grimm and Debbie O’Keefe.  The concert will include traditional Christmas songs to create a festive, family night. New this year will be addition of River Falls Public School music students who will perform in the concert. 
 
The doors will open at 6:00 with a social hour includes complimentary  cider and cookies.  There will also be a silent auction and a bake sale  featuring homemade holiday goodies.  Tickets are available at Dick’s Fresh Market, Dish and Spoon Café, the First National Bank  and on line (www.forwardrf.org). The cost is $15 per ticket, $10 for students and seniors, and no charge for those under five. 
 
Holiday  “Pay It Forward” gift cards will also be available.  These cards can be given to acknowledge special people in our lives during the season and at the same time, benefit the Foundation.
 
FORWARD is a 501( c)  (3) non-profit organization that serves  a means of private giving to the public schools of River Falls.  It funds teacher-developed educational programs to promote innovation and excellence and are beyond the district core budget.  Thus far, over $45,000 has been distributed in grants to teachers in our schools.

The play focuses on Wendy Darling (Lauren Morris of River Falls) and her new friend Peter Pan (Danielle Formanek of Webster). Wendy is taken to Neverland where children never grow up. The children of Neverland long for a mother and Wendy decides to take on the task. Meanwhile, an evil Captain Hook (KC Stowe of Minneapolis) and his right-hand man, Smee, (Kendra Yarke of East Bethel, Minn.) are trying to get rid of the notorious Peter Pan.
 
The play has a consistent theme of “happy thoughts.” Director Sean Dooley, a Twin Cities actor, has embraced the theme using balloons as moving set pieces. The audience is forced to use their imaginations when watching the performance, similar to how children use their imaginations when playing.

Overindulging Your Children? Just in time for the frenzy of acquisition that overtakes most children this time of year, Dr. David Bredehoft will be at the River Falls Public Library to talk about how and when we overindulge our children, and how to stop. Bredehoft is co-author of the book, ?How Much is Too Much,? which helps parents understand how damaging overindulgence can be for children. He offers tips on what to do when family members or friends are indulging the kids to excess, and even on how to get grandparents on board. As the Director of the Center for Innovation and Business Development at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, Danielle Campeau is responsible for supporting economic development and business growth by creating partnerships and leveraging resources between the community and the University.   Ms. Campeau graduated from UW-River Falls with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Business Administration.  She worked for 7 years at a local Healthcare company in various roles including managing a clinical support department, project management, information management systems, operations and corporate training.  Ms. Campeau is excited to put her diverse experiences to work for the businesses in the St. Croix Valley region.

Steve DeWald is a CPA with 30+ years’ experience  in public accounting and a Masters  Degree in Management.  Over this time period Steve gained considerable experience in business management and taxation.  Steve has been the director of the Small Business Development Center since 2005 as well as instructor in several University courses, especially federal taxation.

Information and artifacts on loan from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be part of a free exhibit at the River Falls Public Library beginning Sunday, December 21. The exhibit includes displays on the International Space Station, the Hubble telescope, life in space, the re-usable Space Shuttle system, the Apollo moon mission and much more. Additional related programs include ?Aeronautics: The First ?A? in NASA? on Monday, December 22 at 7pm. Jon Montgomery, director of the Integration and Management Office in the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters who will present a program on past, present and future NASA research. On Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm UW-River Falls physics professor Eileen Korenic takes us back to the early days of NASA when beating the Russians in the race to the moon was the first priority
